About

It all started in 1969 while attending Mary Star the idea to start a band was born. The trio moved on to Fermin Lasuen, and by fate, all 3 players ended up at San Pedro High School. This is when Jim Tardio, John Balesteri, and Chuck Alvarez picked up some momentum and started performing regularly as a band. They called their band ABRAHAM.

Abraham would rehearse where ever friends and family would allow them to. Eventually, they were able to get their own rehearsal space at a local San Pedro storefront for $100 a month. As teenagers, they played at high school dances, The Free Clinic, Peck Park, the Armory, lunchtime concerts at San Pedro High School, and also performed at a couple of other local high schools. They even played at the Terminal Island Prison!

Other musicians who played with Abraham were Mike Anderson and Sabrina Duncan. After high school they parted ways…college, dating, marriage, kids, careers…all living very full lives.

Fast forward about 40 years, they re-grouped and started playing again. In the photo on the left are Dan Bolton (Sax) and Michelle Debbaudt (Vocals). In the photos on the right is Adam Idell (Drums & San Pedro HS grad) who currently steps in when Jim cannot make it.

Their 1st gig was billed as “THE ABRAHAM REUNION”. They played at Godmothers and successfully packed the place with San Pedro High School’s Class of ‘72 & ‘73, Mary Star Alumni, and a bunch of old fans and friends.

They decided to keep the band going and appropriately changed their name to Mid Life Crisis, or “MLC”. 5 years into playing they added new members and expanded MLC to a 4 and 5 piece band.

Roni Iacono, one of San Pedro’s most popular female vocalists (SPHS Grad!) joined the band. And San Pedro’s Paul Cirillo, a popular keyboardist who plays in many bands in town, joined too! Other musicians who have played and/or still play with MLC are Chuck Turner (Keys), Tracy Niles (Vocals, Chuck Nile’s Daughter), and Vince Denham (RIP 2023)(Sax, Michael McDonald). Occasionally you can catch other local Pedro musicians sitting in for a couple of tunes!
